DirecTV Latin America announced that it will deliver all the 64 games of FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 in 4K Ultra HD quality. The operator will launch a new set-top box with this technology, which will hit the market next year. DirecTV’s 4K UHD transmissions will be available in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay.
The company said that “it has a solid technological infrastructure” to offer the next World Cup in 4K UHD. The signal that the operator will receive directly from Moscow, Russia, via fiber optic, will be processed and uploaded in the DirecTV transmission centers to the DLA-1 satellite, which will transmit in 4K UHD resolution directly to the home. Some games will also be produced in HDR.
The operator’s customers will have to acquire the new set-top box, and have a TV compatible with this resolution. DirecTV will announce in the coming months when the new STB will be available and all the information related to this new offer.
The operator will offer live 56 games, and the remaining eight pre-recorded. These eight games are the last of the first phase, when each of the eight groups play their two matches simultaneously.
