Telecommunications company Digicel Group announced through a press release on March 23rd it had reached an agreement to buy the operator TRES Networks of Curaçao. The company provides through its fiber optic FTTH network Pay-TV services, broadband and fixed telephony.
Digicel is expanding in the region following the acquisition of operators Uniqa in Suriname and BTC in Bermuda during 2015. In addition, in recent months it has deployed its own FTTH network in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados to offer Digicel Play, its triple play package. The purchase agreement has not yet received official approval and the amount was not disclosed.
“TRES is pleased to have come to an agreement with Digicel Curacao –a company with a strong brand– that will not only bring a high level of expertise to the operations of TRES, but will also bring considerable market power that will enable TRES to quickly expand its network reach on the island, enhance its services and above all, reach its considerable potential”, stated the CEO of the operator, Frank Frémery.
