DAZN signs millionaire contract with boxing star Canelo Alvarez

Sports streaming platform DAZN, which belongs to Perform Group, has signed with Saul Canelo Alvarez the “most lucrative contract in sports history”, for USD 365 million, and will live stream the next 11 fights during five years.
The contract surpasses that of Giancarlo Stanton, who signed a 13-year, $325 million pact with the Miami Marlins in 2014. The deal will kick off with the fight between Alvarez and Ricky Fielding next December 15. “Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances,” said Alvarez.
DAZN is present in several European countries, including Austria and Germany, as well as in Japan, Canada and the United States, where it launched in September with a USD 9.99 monthly subscription. With this agreement, the company confirms its intention to heavily focus on boxing and take advantage of the space left by HBO, following the group’s decision to no longer show boxing.
