Copa Libertadores games to be available on free-to-air TV in 2019

The South American Soccer Confederation (Conmebol) announced that starting next year matches of the Copa Libertadores tournament will be available on free-to-air TV, in each of the 10 affiliated countries. The entity opened on Tuesday the call for the first TV rights tender process for the 2019-2022 period.
This process includes the sale of TV packages for pay TV and FTA TV in South America. The free TV packages will include the final of the tournament in prime time. Thus, Conmebol said it seeks to “massify the access of South American fans to the Copa Libertadores broadcasts.”
“At the end of the tender, FTA TV rights will be granted to channels in each of the 10 countries of the Conmebol’s Member Associations,” the entity said in a statement.
The tender process was designed by the commercial team of Conmebol with the advice of FC Diez Media, a consortium formed by IMG & Perform, which on September 27 won the tender to provide professional consulting services in marketing, sales and after-sales of the assets of Conmebol’s tournaments from 2019 to 2022.
