Comcast integrates YouTube app into X1 set-top boxes

Comcast announced the nationwide launch of YouTube on Xfinity X1. YouTube content will be accessible via the X1 voice remote and YouTube videos will be featured throughout Xfinity on Demand.

The partnership between Comcast and Google was announced in February this year. At that moment, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts stated the company’s was planning to become an “aggregator of aggregators.” The offer of Xfinity X1 also includes Netflix, which was launched in late 2016.

As of Q217, X1 platform was available in about 55% of the operator’s pay TV subscriber base.  Comcast is also licensing its X1 video platform to other MSOs in Canada, including Canadian companies Videotron, Shaw and Rogers.
