The emergence of new vertical Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms with specific niche content would begin to appear in the Video On Demand (VOD) market in Mexico this year according to the analysis made by Claro Video (America Movil), informed local newspaper El Economista.
“I don’t discard the arrival of more platforms, some of them very specific, i.e. as a channel launching its contents on the internet or some other searching as we have a large selection of content. Competition is good in two ways: it helps us all to be good and because the more on-demand content competition there is people understand more of this medium”, said General Director of Claro Video, Andres Vazquez del Mercado, to that journal.
The officer dismissed Claro Video has plans to bet in the short term on the live transmission of professional soccer matches through the platform. “I do not rule it out but that’s not where we’re going”, Vazquez del Mercado said. “We are devoted 100% to grow Claro Video. We are just seeing the tip of the mountain in Latin America.”
According to Dataxis, Claro Video had in Mexico 2.3 million users and 46.4% of the VOD market share at the end of 2015. It competes locally with the other general OTTs such as Blim (Televisa) and Netflix.
