Claro Video gains traction in the Mexican TVOD space

 

The OTT platform Claro Video (América Móvil) is strengthening its TVOD strategy in Mexico. The service releases today “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice”, the production distributed by Warner Bros, that is one of the highest grossing films of 2016. In this way, Claro Video bet on movie blockbusters to compete with Netflix, which is not offering TVOD, so its catalog does not include any movie premieres.

 

“Batman V Superman” broke box office attendance records in Mexico. According to information from Warner Bros. nearly a half million visitors and USD 1.5 million were recorded in the first hours after the release of the movie in theatres, last March 24.

 

The movie is available for Mx$ 39 (USD 2.10) as other releases. Claro Video also offers other transactional movies for Mx$ 19 (USD 1).

 

From this month, Claro’s TVOD platform also launches titles such as “Kung Fu Panda 3”, “LEGO DC Super Heroes: Justice League: Gotham City Breakout” and “Remember”.

 

Also, the comedy “Sisters”, the science fiction movie ” The Divergent Series: Allegiant” and the action film “London Has Fallen”, among other titles.

 

Since the arrival of Netflix in September 2011, Claro Video has emerged as the only serious competitor in the region, although only in selected markets, especially in Mexico, where is the second SVOD service of the country, right behing Netflix.  Claro Video’s monthly subscription costs Mx$ 69 (USD 3.70).
