Pay TV operator Claro announced the launch of its new hybrid STBs with access to streaming service Claro Video in Colombia. The announcement was made during NexTV Series Colombia & Andean 2016.
This is the first deployment of hybrid STBs in that country, which mixes traditional linear television with OTT video-on-demand services, said the operator in a statement. The platform provider is Nagra, the company said to NexTV News Latam.
The new STBS are already available for new customers who purchase the HD service, and for the current customers for an additional cost. The Claro Video registration is automatic and allows users to access to a catalog of 30,000 titles. In addition, the STB comes with 5MB of internet exclusively dedicated to Claro Video, so it avoids consuming the home internet.
Claro said that soon the STB will provide access to integrated searches, weather apps, soccer, news, traffic, and the purchase of online package. In addition, it will give the possibility to pause, forward and rewind live, record TV shows in the cloud, restart a TV show during or after its broadcast, and enjoy Claro Music service.
“Bringing this new platform to our subscribers, and being the first cable operator to do so in Colombia is a pride as it ratifies our commitment to deliver the best entertainment offer in the country”, said in a statement David Londoño, Marketing director of Claro.
Londoño participated in the panel “Pay TV Programmers & Operators: How to attract future consumers?” in NexTV Series Colombia & Andean, the leading conference organized by Dataxis held in Bogota on November 30.
