Claro Brasil to create business unit for its DTH service

Claro Brasil (América Móvil) group is reportedly creating a new specific business unit for its DTH Claro TV, which is now under the fixed residential businesses unit, also including the MSO Net, the country’s largest pay TV operator.

According to a TelaViva report, the company decided to take this step because it believes that, to grow and become competitive, this unit must operate separately. In addition, it must be taken into account the different dynamics of the cable and satellite TV businesses, in a market that imposes other models of sales, such as the pre-paid option.

The goal is that Claro TV gain autonomy in its commercial strategy, product definition and relationship with the sales and installation chains, but to continue sharing the financial, strategic and purchasing areas of programming, among others, Televiva reported.

According to the latest data provided by regulator Anatel, in May Claro TV reported around 2.3 million customers. The operator has been experiencing a strong decline in its subscriber base during the last few years.
