Free-to-air channel Chilevisión (Turner) has secured the rights to broadcast the matches of the Chilean national team during the South American qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The offer is higher than the previous deal”, said Arturo Salah, president of the National Professional Soccer Association (ANFP), according to local media. Chilevisión won a three-way race for TV rights against Mega and Canal 13.
Although the amount of the offer was not revealed, it is known that Mega paid USD 106 million to broadcast the matches of “La Roja” in the current qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Turner is betting heavily on sports content in Latin America, especially in soccer. The company also has the rights to broadcast the local tournament in Argentina.
