Chile: Supreme Court confirms fine against DirecTV and VTR for uncertified set-top boxes

The Supreme Court of Chile upheld the ruling of the Court of Appeals, which orders pay TV operators DirecTV Chile and VTR to pay a fine of Ch$ 1,240 million (USD 2 million) for uncertified set-top boxes.
The ruling comes after an investigation by the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) that proved that both companies had set-top-boxes installed on the market without certification and in some cases with adulterated security seals, Cooperativa reported.
The SEC investigation began after a house fire broke out in August 2015 in Talcahuano, Biobío region, which was generated by a DirecTV decoder, according to what was established by the firefighters.
