Chile’s Sub-Secretariat for Telecommunications (Subtel) presented the Q117 results of the pay TV market. According to the report, the subscriber base reached 3.11 million, representing a growth of 1.9% compared to the previous quarter and 4.6% compared to March 2016.
At the end of first quarter, VTR, the largest market operator, reached a 33.8% market share, although that number decreased compared to the previous year (34.5%). The operator ended Q117 with 1.05 million pay TV subscribers, up 2.2% from the same period in 2016.
Movistar (Telefónica) reached 646,000 customers (+1.6% YoY) and a 20.8% market share. DirecTV (AT&T) registered 588,000 subscribers (+ 9%) and 18.9% of market share. Claro, with a 12.9% market share, lost subscribers compared to three month ago (-2.7%) and a year ago (-7.6%). The company ended the period with 401,000 clients.
Entel grew 25.3% compared to Q116 and reached 130,000 subscribers. Telsur recorded 102,000 pay TV customers (+ 6.2%) and Pacífico Cable 90,000 (+ 8.8%).
