Canal Sony confirms acquisition of American Idol in exclusive for Latin America

Canal Sony announced that it has signed a deal with FremantleMedia International to air in Latin America the new season of American Idol, the iconic series that had a profound effect on the music industry.
This way, the show, which is set to launch on ABC (US) in March 2018, will return to Canal Sony with a brand new panel of music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, with Ryan Seacrest returning as host.
“The new season of American Idol underscores once more the enormous diversity and quality of our content, and our network’s role in bringing viewers the best new musical talent from the United States,” commented TC Schultz, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Latin America and Brazil at Sony Pictures Television Networks.
American Idol is produced by FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment, a division of CORE Media Group. The new season of the show is part of Canal Sony’s “Sigue la Música” strategy for its primetime bloc on Wednesdays and Thursdays, showcasing talent competitions such as “The Voice”, “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent”.
