Canal 13, TVN submit joint bid for Viña del Mar Festival TV rights

Chilean TV networks Canal 13 and TVN submitted a joint bid for Viña del Mar TV rights, for the 2019-2022 period. According to local media, the offer is higher than the one presented by Chilevisión, while Mega decided not to participate in the process. The winner will be officially announced in April.
For this tender process, Canal 13 (Luksic group) and the state-owned broadcaster TVN partnered with Fox Networks Group and Iberoamericana Radio Chile. According to La Tercera, which cites figures from the Mercado Público website, the proposal includes an offer of UF 9.03 million (equivalent to about USD 400 million). Both TV stations had already partnered to organize and broadcast the festival between 2007 and 2010.
In turn, Chilevisión (Turner) presented an offer of UF 36,000 (USD 1.6 million). According to sources close to the negotiations, before the closing of the tender, last Friday, Turner’s board chose not to financially support the proposal, at the same level as it did in other years.
Mega (Grupo Bethia) did not submit any offer. The channel explained that “given the context of deep transformation of the media industry, the purchase of high-cost events increases the long-term economic and financial risks.”
