Telecommunications company Cablevision (Clarin Group) from Argentina, leader in the Pay-TV and broadband markets, will launch an internet TV service with multiplatform access to their linear channel programming, cloud digital video recording (DVR), Video On Demand (VOD) and original content.
During a press conference in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, the company’s Commercial Manager, Gonzalo Hita, announced to the main features of the so called @TV Proyect, which will be released in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The system will have the full range of linear channels available today on the programming grid of their Cable TV operator and which would be accessed from any device connected to the internet. In a second instance, it could be offered through other internet providers.
In addition to access to VOD platforms of all programmers, it will feature tools such as start-over of shows already in course with a 24-hour window and does not rule out a direct access to US OTT Netflix. Cablevision will begin marketing hybrid set-top boxes (STB) with built-in system and will feature an app for mobiles and Smart TVs.
The service was described as an “evolution of the HD plan” and is expected to be offered at no additional cost to customers of high-definition digital Pay-TV packages and as an extra element to tempt the migration of subscribers of analog Cable TV (which today account for 54% of their 3.5 million total subscribers).
