Telecommunications company Cablevision (Clarin Group) from Argentina assured that 60% of its broadband internet traffic it offers through the Fibertel brand corresponds to video streaming.
This was stated by the Commercial Manager of the company, Gonzalo Hita, during a conference call with local press. According to their record, 26% of video traffic comes from access to free platform YouTube (Google) while 28% represents the use of American OTT Netflix.
Thanks to a co-location agreement of equipment in their Cablevision/Fibertel network, Netflix was able to increase its traffic by 30%, according to the manager. The Argentine company believes that the OTT should pay a fee for using its network.
Hita also mentioned that during 2016 the company will start automatically to migrate customers with bandwidth of 3Mb to 6Mb free of charge and that they foresee that within five years the average, which is 12Mb nowadays, will become 225MB, with a maximum plan of 1Gb.
