Brazil transfers Abril’s TV license to Spring

The Brazilian Government published in the official gazette, on Friday 21, the decree transferring the FTA TV license of group Abril to the company Spring.
According to local media, the decree states that Spring will keep broadcasting the service with a temporary license, until the National Congress resolves the request for license renewal, which expired in 2015.
The channel, available in Sao Paulo, was used by Abril to broadcast MTV until 2013. In June that year the company did not renew the contract with Viacom for the use of the brand and a few months later, in December, Abril sold the license to Spring.
The group Spring publishes in the country the Brazilian edition of the Rolling Stones magazine, among other publications. The president of the group is José Roberto Maluf, former VP of the FTA channels Band and SBT.
