América Móvil remains interested in offering pay TV in Mexico

In a conference with analysts to discuss the Q218 results, Daniel Hajj, CEO of América Móvil, confirmed that the company remains interested in entering the pay TV market in Mexico, which is growing and has more competition.
“I hope we can offer television soon. Even pay television in Mexico is the only segment that is growing, unlike mobile telephony, fixed telephony and the internet, segments where prices are falling. We see no reason not to offer TV in Mexico,”said the executive, according El Financiero.
On the other hand, Hajj assured that the AT &T-Time Warner merger will not affect the distribution business in the region. “I do not think it will affect, because at the end of the day it will have content, so they need to sell that content to everyone.”
In its second quarter report, the group does not report the number of pay TV subscribers it has in Latin America. However, it said that the regional subscriber base “was slightly lower than in 2017 after net adds of 136,000 units in the period”.
