America Movil is interested in acquiring some or all of the operations of the Brazillian telecommunications company Oi, said AMX CEO, Daniel Hajj to Valor Economico newspaper.
Carlos Slim’s company is monitoring Oi’s judicial recovery process. According to the executive, everything will depend on the assets that Oi decides to sell, as well as the regulator’s authorization and the market price.
“I’m very interested in participate of the (market) consolidation in Brazil, but I don’t know how it will happen”, added the CEO.
After the interview the company released a statement in which they confirmed being “open to analyze all possibilities”. “Daniel Hajj (company CEO) said that as soon as we know what will be sold and under which conditions we will analyze the situation”.
Last june Oi filed for the biggest bankruptcy rescue in the history of Brazil, with a debt of R$65.4 billion (USD 20 billion)
Oi is the main fixed telephony operator in Brazil, and has mobile telephony, broadband internet and pay TV (DTH and IPTV) services. America Movil owns Claro Brazil, Net and Embratel.
