America Movil expects to offer pay TV in Mexico at the end of the year

America Movil expects the Mexican Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT) to approve the request to offer pay TV in the country. Daniel Hajj, CEO of the company, informed in an analysts conference that they hope to have the license ‘before the end of the year’. The executive mentioned that the regulator is making an internal review on the request, which the company sent in October 2018.

In its second quarter 2019 financial results report, America Movil informed that accesses to pay TV had 94 thousand less subscribers compared to the same period 2018. According to the company, pay TV and telephony accesses reductions took place mainly in Brazil. The company also reported that fixed broadband accesses increased 6% year-on-year, and pay TV decreased by 1.9%.

America Movil reported 250 billion Mexican pesos revenues (equivalent to USD 13.12 billion). The figure already mentioned is 2.7% low than the one recorded in the second quarter 2018.
