Amazon aims to “significantly increase” its investment in video content

USD technology and e-commerce company Amazon announced that it plans to “significantly increase” its investment in contents for its Video On Demand (VOD) platform, for now only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Austria, Germany and –soon– India.

“One of our larger investments is our content spend. We like the results because we see better engagements, better free trial conversions from Prime members who use the video service”, said Amazon CFO, Brian Olsavsky, during the company’s earnings call for the first quarter of 2016.

In order to compete directly with the OTT Netflix, Amazon launched in April the option to access its VOD platform Amazon Video for a monthly subscription of USD 8, when previously it was only accessible through Amazon Prime’s annual membership of USD 100.
