Scandinavian group AINMT Holdings has entered into an agreement with NII Holdings to acquire 30% stake in Nextel Brazil for USD 50 million, and it has the option to invest an additional USD 150 million in the company to increase its controlling stake to 60%.
AINMT CEO JD Fouchard said during a teleconference that the company is focused on the acquisition of Nextel but they will keep their eyes open to an eventual sale of Sky Brasil and some assets of Brazilian telecom operator Oi. “We are going to look at the opportunities that will appear, but we will be focused on Nextel Brazil,” the executive said, according to Teletime.
AINMT is established in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The purchase option to increase its stake to 60% of Nextel must be completed before November 15. As reported by both companies in a statement, Nextel has 2.9 million 3G/LTE subscribers in Brazil.
