Mexican SVOD platform Chivas TV (Grupo Omnilife-Chivas) is considering redefining its business model in 2017 and forming strategic alliances with other platforms for the distribution of its content, said over the course of NexTV Series Mexico & Central America 2016 José Luis Higuera, CEO of Omnilife-Chivas.
“It is a fact that distribution partnerships are needed,” said Higuera, according to El Financiero newspaper. “Claro Sports (America Movil) is an interesting partner and also AT&T, ESPN and FOX. Even Televisa still has the door open”, Higuera said during the panel “Sports: Multi-screen, OTT & Live Streaming”.
Last May, Chivas announced the launch of its own OTT, after ending 22 years of alliance with Televisa for the broadcast TV rights. “Chivas is the only OTT platform of a soccer team in Latin America”, the executive said at the event organized by Dataxis.
The platform was officially launched in July but has since then had several technical problems. In this sense, Higuera acknowledged that Chivas launching Chivas TV “was a difficult and exhausting experience”. However, said the problems “have already been solved”.
